S.O.S. Save Our Skin: DIY Fruit Smoothie Mask

Blueberries. Cherries. Blackberries. Raspberries. I love them all, but more importantly, they love me. When I was attacking my Lyme disease without antibiotics (successfully), I was on a very stringent diet, which included abstaining from any and all sweets and sweeteners. The only sweet thing I was allowed (besides my husband) was the occasional carrot.

Once I received my clean bill of health, I was allowed to introduce berries into my diet, along with all their health benefits. These little gems contain vitamins K, C, B6, and A. plus iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, and zinc, not to mention folate and fiber. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/287710.php However, it turns out their health benefits are not limited to A.B.C. berries (Already Been Chewed). You can also reap the benefits from outside your body.

Check out this DIY Facial Treatment recipe from Charlene Handel, which will increase sun protection while providing antioxidant and resveratrol benefits to your skin. This is a great Mother-Daughter activity. If you two are having relationship problems, make a promise to each other to leave all that outside the door during your 2-hour spa treatment. Build up your relationship one loving experience at a time.

DIY Fruit Smoothie Mask Recipe

What you will need (ingredients are doubled to make enough for the two of you):

  • 12 medium organic strawberries
  • 24 organic red grapes
  • 1 organic banana
  • 2 Tbsp organic honey
  • 1 tween/teenage daughter
  • 1 mirror
  • 1 camera

Combine the first 3 ingredients in a blender until it becomes smooth and creamy. Transfer to a bowl. Gently fold honey into the mixture. Apply the mask to a cleansed face (preferably with a fan brush). The next step is to lightly massage with fingertips for 2 minutes. First massage your daughter’s face so she will learn what to do. Then have her return the favor. The impact of your loving touches will last long after the mess has been cleaned up.

Wait 20 minutes after the massages (lick the bowl while you wait and discuss who would benefit from this activity) and then rinse with warm water.

When you are done, gather up half a dozen of the commercial products you both use. Look them up on EWG.org to see if they are healthy choices or not. Have your tech-savvy cherub Google homemade skin products to find alternatives for you to try together next week, and then set a date on your calendars.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this S.O.S. Save Our Skin article series. To recap, I began by inviting you to Celebrating the Hated Pimple, then shared a series of activities for you and your daughter, cleverly disguised as Do It Yourself skin products. What better way to eliminate the dangerous chemicals found in commercial products, than to make DIY Lip Gloss, your own DIY Face Mask, and this week’s DIY Fruit Smoothie Mask?

Homemade products rock!
