What’s Your Ecological Footprint?
Happy Earth Day! Many Environmental Science classes have their students go through this simulation to calculate their Ecological Footprint on our planet. Take this quiz to measure your personal footprint on our planet: https://www.footprintcalculator.org/home/en
For Americans, it’s startling to come face to face with how your lifestyle, even a modest one, takes such a chunk out of our planet and its populations.
Don’t feel hopeless. Commit to making one SMALL change every year. You don’t have to overhaul your life. Change your habits, and your life will change. Last year I decided to shorten my showers, but I ended up showering 3-4 times a week instead of daily. That’s a huge savings in water. The year before I organized my home for convenient recycling. This year I am committed to shopping at the local farmers market, and cooking at home instead of eating out.
(Don’t tell my parents or sisters. They think I can’t cook.)
If everyone who sees this post sends it to someone else, and they all make a small change, we can impact the world together. You may not be able to notice the consequences of your commitment, but they will definitely be there. Many little things from many individuals creates a large impact.
What is my biggest potential impact on my planet? I’m sharing this with you, and you might be motivated to make a small change… and then you might inspire someone else to make a change.
What small thing can you change in your life to help our planet?
